Letter handwritten and signed by R. Eliyahu Guttmacher Rabbi of Greiditz (Grodzisk Wielkopolski). Iyar 1870. Yiddish and some Hebrew.
The letter, which discusses bringing a book to print (presumably his son's book), is addressed to his son R. Tzvi Hirsh Guttmacher Rabbi of Pleschen (Pleszew). The letter begins with blessings: "An abundance of blessing and success for my son R. Tzvi", and concludes with blessings and his full signature: "Your father who longs that this be a time of mercy to fulfill our wishes – G-d's salvation is like the blink of an eye – Eli. son of R. Sh., rabbi of Greiditz".
R. Eliyahu Guttmacher Rabbi of Greiditz (1796-1875), disciple of R. Akiva Eger. Rabbi of Pleschen and Greiditz. Renowned in his later years as a wonder-worker.
His son R. Tzvi Hirsh Guttmacher, who succeeded him as rabbi of Pleschen, passed away childless in his lifetime. His father published his books Nachalat Tzvi and Ken Meforeshet.
