Letter from Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneersohn – the Lubavitcher Rebbe, with his signature. Brooklyn NY, 22nd Kislev 1957.
Typewritten on the official stationery of the rebbe, with his signature, and several corrections in his handwriting.

Addressed to R. Meir Charlov in Ramat Gan, presumably regarding the restriction on drinking alcoholic beverages at Hitvaaduyot (for another letter on this topic, which the rebbe sent him a month earlier, see Kedem Auction 28, item 39).
The rebbe begins his letter: "It was a pleasure to receive his letter… regarding his good conduct henceforth in regard to that matter", and stresses the importance of this practice: "And it is certainly superfluous to encourage him in this good decision… this is also one of the ways to disseminate the wellsprings outwards, through showing the people around that the behavior of our Chassidim and those who study Chassidut is a prime example of good conduct".
Further in the letter, the rebbe adds more words of encouragement: "And since it sometimes seems difficult to adopt a good practice, I wish with these lines to encourage him again and again. And even if initially the change appears difficult to him – surely after a short time he will get used to it and rejoice that he is conducting himself specifically in this way", and concludes with blessings: "May G-d grant him success in this and in all their concerns – him and his wife".
At the end of the letter, the rebbe congratulates him about the Hitvaadut which took place on the occasion of Yat Kislev: "With blessings for good news from the Hitvaadut of Yat Kislev, Rosh Hashana of the study of Chassidut, and for good news also in the above matter".
