Following Kamińska's letter is a short handwritten letter of recommendation by Haim Nachman Bialik (Hebrew): "the famous Jewish actress Mrs. Ester Rachel Kamińska deserves, no doubt, the attention of the committee who will, as far as possible, fulfill her request".
Actress Ester Rachel Kamińska, neé Halperin (1870-1925) was one of the leading actresses of the Polish theater and the Yiddish theater and was known as the "Mother of Jewish Theater". Kamińska performed with her husband Avraham Yitzchak Kamiński in a theater group; her repertoire included Yiddish plays by leading Jewish authors, as well as plays penned by non-Jews. The Warsaw Jewish Theater is named after her and after her daughter, actress Ida Kamińska. Her son, Joseph Kaminski, for whom she wrote this letter, was a violinist and composer. Kaminski immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1937 and was the first violinist of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for many years. A postcard with a picture of Kamińska is enclosed. [1] leaf, 28 cm.
