Large collection of dozens of letters and documents from the archive of R. Yaakov Landau Rabbi of Bnei Brak - letters from rabbis and kashrut supervisors, letters from R. Landau, signed kashrut certificates and other paper items. [Ca. 1930s-1980s].
Partial list of the rabbis who wrote the letters:
R. Yechezkel Abramsky and the London Beit Din; R. Yitzchak Eizik HaLevi Herzog, chief rabbi of Eretz Israel; Eidah HaCharedit of Jerusalem, signed by R. Pinchas Epstein, R. Yisrael Yitzchak Reisman and R. David Jungreis; R. Tzvi Pesach Frank rabbi of Jerusalem; R. Yosef Breuer, rabbi of Khal Adath Jeshurun, NY, USA; R. Eliyahu Munk, a rabbi in Paris; R. Yosef Yehoshua Gross of Karoly, rabbi of the Satmar community in Bnei Brak; R. Shimon Efrati, director of the kashrut department of the chief rabbinate; and many other rabbis.
Many of the letters in this collection pertain to the kashrut polemic surrounding "Australian cheese". In ca. 1940-1945, R. Landau raised the awareness of the kashrut concerns in cheese produced from ingredients imported from Australia. This led to the chief rabbinate, who originally declared the cheese as kosher, retracting its decision and publicizing that it is to be considered non-kosher
