Lapel pin and two rings that were given against the donation of jewelry to the "Kofer HaYishuv" ("Community Ransom") fundraising campaign. [Palestine, late 1930s or 1940s].
1. Lapel pin reading "Community Ransom – Gift of Jewels – 1938-9" (Hebrew). Designed by Moshe Murro (1888-1957), painter and sculptor, founder of the "HaKame'ah" workshop in Bezalel. Signed on verso: "M. Murro, Jerusalem" (Hebrew).
Approx. 1.5X1.5 cm.
2-3. Two brass rings reading "Kofer HaYishuv", one for a woman and the other for a man.
Diameter: 17 mm and 20 mm.
"Kofer HaYishuv" ("Community Ransom"), a fundraising campaign to finance the security needs of the Yishuv, was established in 1938, during the 1936–1939 Arab revolt in Palestine. One of the drives in the campaign was titled "Gift of Jewelry" wherein the members of the Yishuv donated their best Jewelry, utensils and even their wedding rings. In return, they received a brass ring, a pin or a desktop paper holder with the logo of "Kofer HaYishuv".
