On the book's title page is the stamp of Rabbi "Shlomo Ganzfried Rosh Av Beit Din of Ungvar" and several of his signatures in a foreign language on the first leaves [another owner's signature: "Yechezkel Segal Landau"]. On the margin of one of the leaves are two long glosses, one [cutoff] is apparently in the handwriting of Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried.
Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried (1804-1886, Otzar HaRabbanim 18404), a great scholar and posek of his generation, Av Beit Din of his birthplace, Ungvar from his youth until his death. At age 30, he published his first work Keset Sofer which was privileged to receive the enthusiastic approbation of the Chatam Sofer, who instructed all his disciples "that from the day that the book Keset Sofer was printed, no scribe will receive a permit to write until he is proficient in this bookג€¦ and a scribe that is not proficient in this book will be rendered unfit for his trade". He wrote many works on halacha and aggada, but is especially famous for his book Kitzur Shulchan Aruch that was accepted by Jews throughout the world and has been printed in hundreds of editions in many languages.
