Two publications dealing with the taxes and governancel procedures of the Jewish community of Ferrara, Italy, 1702-1779. Italian and some Hebrew. Both publications topped by coats of arms.
1. In nome del signore iddio! Regole delle Tasse della Natione Hebrea di Ferrara, Adi 14 Maggio 1702 […the tax laws of the Jewish community of Ferrara, valid from May 14, 1702]. Ferrara: Stampa Camerale Press, June 24, 1702.
A proclamation issued by the Cardinal Fulvio Astalli (1655-1721) with regulations for the payment and collection of taxes by the Jewish community of Ferrara. Followed by the Hebrew text of the excommunication placed by community leaders Joseph Burgo, Mordechai Zahalon and Shabbetai Elhanan Sanguinetti on violators of the regulations.
Approx. 55 cm. good condition. Fold lines. Stains. Several perforations (slightly affecting the text). Creases and tears to the margins.
2. Editto per li massari dell'Università degli Ebrei di Ferrara [Edict for the representatives of the Jewish community of Ferrara]. Ferrara: Stampa Camerale, August 26, 1779.
An edict issued by Cardinal Francesco Carafa (1722-1818) and given to the two representatives of the Jewish community of Ferrara, Jacob Vitta Minerbi and Samaria Levi. The edict deals with disturbances of public order and disobedience to various position-holders in the community, determines several governance procedures and details the penalties for the offenders.
Approx. 42.5 cm. Good condition. Horizontal fold line. Small perforations to margins (not affecting the text).
