Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom Shlomo Haim ben Yehoshua ben Yitzchak ben Moshe Hasan, with the bride Simcha ("Simi") bat Yitzchak ben David ben Shlomo Benabú. Gibraltar, Tevet, 1957.
Ketubah on a large parchment sheet, illuminated in color (brown, gold, green, red, yellow, blue) in Art Deco style.
On the upper part of the Ketubah is an elaborate Torah crown surrounded by blessings. A Star of David appears on top of a gate surrounding the text. Lower left side of the frame is decorated with a branch in blossom and on the lower part is a monogram with initials of the couple's names - SHS. On the lower right corner appears artist's signature, Marco D. Benabú. The word "Hai", enlarged and bold, appears in the center of the text.
Signature of the groom, of Rabbi Yosef [Emanuel] Pacifici (Rabbi of Gibraltar 1956-1959) and one more signature.
This elegant Ketubah (with illustration of crown, flowers and monogram) follows the tradition of illuminated Ketubot from Gibraltar in the 19th and early 20th century, and at the same time reflects the development of artistic style in the spirit of modernism and features a unique example of this tradition.
