Volume which binds fourth-year issues of the HaShavua periodical (Issues 3, 6, 7, 9, 14, 17, 27, 38 are lacking).
HaShavua is another name of the HaMagid periodical – the first Hebrew newspaper which first appeared in 1856. HaMagid underwent several adjustments and changed its name a number of times due to the censor. In 1900, it was published with two different names. The periodical published news, primarily of Jewish communities and sections of poetry and literature as well as other articles. Among the writers of articles which appear in this volume are Shaul Tchernichovsky, K.Y Silman, Yitzchak Eizik Lubetzky, and others.
Total of 43 issues. Volume: 30.5 cm. 3 issues have duplicates at the end of the volume. Fair condition. Many tears, some open, affecting text. Many tears to first leaf of the first issue (reinforced with pasted paper and adhesive tape). Stains and ink-stamps on leaves. Tears and creases to leaf edges. Pencil inscription on inside of front cover. Non-contemporary stained cardboard binding. Fabric spine.
