Esther scroll on bone handle. [Germany or Holland, 18th century].
Ink; parchment; engraved and carved bone; silk and synthetic fabric.
Sephardic Stam script. 22-26 lines per column.
The Megillah is partially backed with contemporary checkered silk; the first membrane and part of the second are backed with new fabric, with a ribbon closure.
Wound on a fine engraved and carved bone handle.
The scroll is placed in a velvet-lined, wooden case covered in leather-like paper; ca. early 20th century.
Parchment height: 23.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Many stains. Ink fading in some letters. Late repairs with parchment additions. Height of bone handle: approx. 37 cm. Good condition. Crack to handle. Stains. Part of fabric backing missing, tears in a few places, slightly worn.
