English edition of the Bible and the New Testament, accompanied by 29 steel engravings depicting various views and sites in Palestine (the introduction indicates that the engravings were made "after photographs of the most interesting localities in the Holy Land, which were taken in the spring and summer of 1860 expressly for this purpose" by J. Cramb).
Several addenda at end, including Scripture Chronology; Alphabetical table of the proper names in the Old and New Testaments, with the meaning of the words in the original languages; Biblical Cyclopedia; Summary of Biblical Antiquities (with illustrations of the Temple and its vessels, the breastplate of the High Priest, tefillin, coins, and more); and more.
Two printed forms of family registers bound preceding the title page. The forms are filled-in (English), documenting marriages, births and deaths in the family who owned the present copy (dating to 1866-1974).
[4], 944, 288, [40], 48 pp. + [29] engraved plates and [7] maps, 32.5 cm. Gilt edges. Good condition. Minor stains. Closed and open tears to edges of several leaves (not affecting text). Tear to edge of one plate; open tear to edge of another (not affecting the illustrations). Bookplate to inside front board. Elegant leather binding, partly detached from the spine, with blemishes and slight wear (mainly to the corners and edges). Tears to edge of spine.
