Decorative textile for a Torah Scroll case. Iraq or Persia, first half of 20th century. Velvet; silver thread embroidery. A Star of David in the center, surrounded by a circle with the word “Zion” within it. Within the star and next to the angles of the star appear the embroidered letters “Magen David”. Embroidery covers all of the surface in a square geometric pattern with large flowers on the margins and in the corners. Silver fringes at the sides. Length: 46 cm, width: 143 cm. Fair condition. The upper part is cut off. The embroidery and cloth are in very good condition; inner lining is stained.
