Compte rendu du Comité d'assistance aux Réfugiés (israélite) de Syrie et de Palestine [Report of the Committee for Assistance of Jewish Exiles from Palestine and Syria]. Two booklets. Alexandria: Societé de Publications, [1915?] and 1918. French.
Two reports of the Committee for Assistance of Jewish Exiles from Palestine and Syria (bound together), one for the period between 20.12.1914 and 30.06.1915 and the second for 1917. The reports discuss the situation of the Jewish exiles in Egypt and include a list of committee members, statistical information related to the exiles, a list of donors, information regarding the distribution of donations, and more.
When the Ottoman Empire joined World War I alongside the Central Powers, all subjects of the Entente Powers in Palestine became enemy subjects, and were required to accept Ottoman citizenship or leave the country. In winter 1914, Ahmed Djemal Pasha ordered the deportation of all Russian subjects to Egypt; hundreds of residents of Jaffa and Tel-Aviv were taken violently from their houses and deported to Egypt on board of the SS Florio. The Committee for Assistance of Jewish Exiles from Palestine and Syria was established in Egypt that year to support the Jews who were exiled from Palestine.
First booklet: 40 pp. Second booklet: 23 pp. 21 cm. Both booklets, with their original covers, are bound together (conjoined with strips of tape; strip of tape on spine detached). Good condition. Stains. Some tears and minor blemishes. Library stamps.
