Chikrei lev, innovative commentaries and debates, questions and answers organized like the four parts of the Shulchan Aruch, by Rabbi Yosef Refael Chazan. Salonika-Livorno, [1787-1817]. Volumes 1-6 only (out of eight).
Owner’s handwritten signature Sephardic style. On the title page of the first volume, the signature reads “Kodesh Le-midrash Bnei Moshe”. On the title page of the second volume, the owner’s inscriptions say “Hatsa’ir A.M.N” and “I bought this Avraham Gamliel Krishpin”. On the third volume’s title page there is a dedication “A gift given from the great Rabbi Elyahu Chazan, [signed] Aharon Sasson”. The fifth volume’s title page is signed by “[Senior] David Algazi”.
Rabbi Yosef Refael Chazan (Otzar Harabanim 8976, born in 1741, passed in 1821) was among Izmir’s greatest Torah scholars. He emigrated to Jerusalem in 1813 and was appointed Chief Rabbi in 1815.
Parts of the book were printed with answers from Rabbi Yosef Chazan, from sons of the author, from Rabbi Chaim Palagi (author's grandson), Rabbi Israel from Shklov, Ha-melitz and more. In the first volume there are approbations from Rabbi David Pardo and Maharit Algazi.
About 18.5cm. Good condition. Light moth damage, stains. Slightly worn margins.
