In the summer of 1938, the young men Moshe Soleveitchik and Aharon Leib traveled from Brisk to Switzerland, to study in the Montreux Yeshiva and to escape conscription into the Polish army. This journey which took place right before the Holocaust, proved to be the miracle of survival for these two Torah giants, who impacted the entire generation that established the Torah world in our times: Rabbi Moshe Soleveitchik in Zurich, who led the Torah world in Europe and Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, Torah leader in Eretz Yisrael. Their families who remained in Brisk all perished in the Holocaust by the murderous Nazis.
In this collection each leaf has several letters from the families left behind in Brisk: * Letter signed by Rabbi Aharon Leib's father, Rabbi Noach Zvi Shteinman, by his mother Gittel Faiga Shteinman and his sister Golda. * Letters to Rabbi Moshe, from his father Rabbi Gershon Yisrael HaLevi Soleveitchik, his mother and his brother Rabbi Ze'ev HaLevi. On the leaf margins, are notations by friends from their hometown. * Letters from Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman to his family and friends. A Shtar Pruzbul signed by Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, etc.
Important family documents, entirely unknown.
The letters from Rabbi Aharon Leib often deal with strengthening of faith and a complete devotion to Torah study and matters of faith and morality.
