Omstandig en waaragtig Verhaal Van veele gepleegde en nooit gehoorde Diefstallen: Als vooornamentlyk [sic] aan de zeer beruchte Goude Tafel, by M. S. H [Sigismund Hosmann]. Amsterdam: Hendrik Schelte, 1710. Dutch.
First Dutch translation of the book "Fürtreffliches Denck-Mahl […]" by Sigismund Hosmann. The book discusses the burglary of St. Michaelis church in Lüneburg (Germany). This 1698 burglary, committed by a group of thieves – many of them Jewish – led by Nickel List, was considered at the time the biggest church burglary to have ever happened. In 1699 the thieves were arrested and executed.
The book is accompanied by 17 engraved plates, three of them are folding. An additional engraving appears facing the title page. Most of the engravings are portraits of the burglars. One folding engraving depicts their execution.
[6], 377, [17] pp + [18] plates, 20 cm. Good overall condition. Stains (most plates are clean). Slight damage. Small tears at margins of a number of leaves. Small tear, open, to engraving depicting the execution, slightly affecting the engraving. Small tears to margins of the other two folding engravings. Bookplate on inner side of front binding. Inscription on title page. Cardboard binding, half leather. Slight tears, rubbing and damage to binding. Open tear to top of spine.
* Enclosed is an additional copy, not complete, of the book. Lacking: one leaf (pages 169-170) and one folding plate.
