Reputedly, the Baal HaTanya reviewed this composition and held it in very high esteem, even on one occasion delivering an entire discourse based on the writings of R. Yehuda Leib.

The present book serves as a kind of introduction and summary of the fundaments of Chabad teachings. The author was presumably a disciple of R. Yitzchak Moshe of Yas (1766?-1861), a prominent disciple of the Baal HaTanya.
