Amulet for protection against fire and for protection of woman in childbirth, and against all evil. Reproduction of the amulet printed by Frumkin and Friends printing press in Jerusalem on 1874. This amulet, as far as its design is concerned, is identical to the previous item; however this amulet is printed on white paper in red ink, and colored by hand. 62X42 cm. Stains. Professionally restored tears.

Elisha Shochat printing press, Baghdad, [ca. 1920s]. Printed in green ink on pink paper. A large letter “Heh: with a Hamsa in it on top, handwritten: “David Saliman Sassoon”. 4. Examined and tried amulet from the Book of Raziel, protection for the house. [Ezra Reuven Dangoor printing press, Baghdad, early 20th century]. Printed in golden ink on green paper. Size varies. Various blessings and verses, names of angels and illustrations of Stars of David. Illustration of a sword with names of angels appears on the lower part (such amulets were common in the Near East and North Africa and it was customary to place the amulet under the baby’s pillow). 249X9 cm. Good condition. Dampstains and some damages to right margins.

· Vellum Amulet – Ilan Sefirot, includes a detailed illustration of the progression of the Worlds according to Kabbalistic wisdom. Written at the end: “This Ilan was written in holiness and purity for success, favor and childbearing and complete recovery and protection from plagues…and from evil spirits…and from ayin hara…”. Another vellum amulet with Holy Names is attached to the end of the amulet with the Ilan. Includes a silver case which contained the amulet. [Oriental countries, 20th century]. Long narrow format, rolled. Length of the (Ilan) amulet: 83 cm + another amulet, 25 cm. Length of silver case: approximately 7 cm. · Vellum amulet, with Holy Names, illustration of a hand (Chamsa) and a Star of David. Includes a silver case which housed the amulet. [Oriental countries, 20th century]. Long narrow format. 31 cm. Length of silver case: approximately 6 cm. · Leather case with amulet. The case is sewn at all sides, with a loop for hanging. The case was not opened and the amulet inside was not examined. [Oriental countries, 20th century]. Three amulets. Overall good condition.

“Ilan Ha-Gadol”, Kabbalic illustrations, fundamentals of Kabbalah, Sephirot order and the development of realms, by Rabbi Meir Poppers disciple of Ha-Ari. Warsaw, 1864. Printed on a paper scroll, 3.5 meters long. “Ilan HaGadol” written by Rabbi Meir Poppers…disciple of Ha-Ari… to climb a ladder…including all the writings of Ha-Ari…”. Approbation by Rebbe Yesha’ayahu Mushkat, who writes: ”…I give my consent to print the Ilan HaKadosh…”. Below the approbation the protective qualities of the Ilan are written: “protection against all evil and for raising sons”. Shaped as a scroll, text printed from top to bottom, 350X20 cm. The title “Ilan” and its illustrations are in golden ink. Condition varies – most of the Ilan in good condition, on top – an open tear (approbation) and some rough open tears at the end.
