Five Torah pointers. Morocco, 19/20th century. Silver; brass; casting and engraving. The Moroccan Torah pointer (“Yad”) was, in general, flat, with a hamsa-shaped hand and a long pointing finger, and was named “Qlam des-sifer”. The Torah pointers offered here feature a stylized hoop or circle on top and are decorated with vegetal and geometric patterns. An inscription on one pointer: “In honor of… Miriam wife of David Zafrani…”. An ornamentation of a Star of David with the letter ‘ש appears on another pointer. Average length 15-22 cm. Overall good condition.

Pair of Torah Finials, Vienna (Alt Wien), 1846 Silver (marked) cast, embossed and engraved. Round base. Handles, base and body of finials are decorated with tiers of floral and vegetal decoration. Upper part is shaped as a crown topped with a decoration shaped like a flower bud with leaves. Six chains are suspended from each finial decorated with flower-shaped pendants ending with discs decorated with embossed flowers (four of the discs of one finials were replaced by Persian coins of the 19th century). Engraved inscription on the base: “Eliezer [with his spouse] / Gittle Gestetner” (Hebrew). Height: 37 cm. Overall good condition. Slightly bent and broken crown decorations on top of the finials. Missing bells (?).

Two pairs of Torah finials (“Apples”). Morocco or Algeria, [first half of 20th century]. 1. Pair of finials. Cast and cut silver. Positioned on a round leg. The body of the Finial, called in Morocco “Apple” is hexagonal, with a repeated pattern on each panel: stylized vegetal decoration with an oval shape below within which is a pendant; lower strap is decorated with Stars of David. On top appears a decoration which ends with a ball. Six bells hang on the sides. Height: 33 cm. Good condition. Some stains and scratches. Lacking seven pendants. 2. Pair of finials [Morocco or Algeria]. Cast silver, sawn, embossed and engraved. Large finials. Narrow and long shape. Lower part decorated with leaves and flowers and upper part with sawn vegetal patterns, with four windows shaped as horseshoe-arches from which hang pendants shaped as flowers. Four chains hang on stylized hooks with bells at the end. Height: 36 cm. Overall good condition. Some bends. Missing five flower-pendants. Missing chain (with bell).

Six chains are suspended from the upper part with bells at their ends. Engraved dedication on the handles: “In memory of Habib Toledano”. Height: 30.5 cm. Good condition. Loose screw to one finial. Bends and some damages. Old soldering repairs. A pair of Torah finials (“apples”). [Morocco, first half of 20th century]. Light colored metal and copper, sawn and soldered. Massive finials, impressive folk art. Each finial has five edges. Each edge is decorated with sawn repeated patterns (from bottom to top): oblong rounds or small horseshoe-arches, a grid, large horseshoe-arch, a square with a sawn inscription: “Kodesh LeHashem” (inscription on all five edges), diagonal grid and a small rhombus. The finials are topped with metal arches. Height: 38 cm. Fair condition. Chains missing. Broken decorations at top of finials. Corrosion and bends.

A pendant shaped as a flower on upper part. Height: 34 cm. Good condition, scratches and damage to metal. Missing eight window-bells. 2. Pair of Torah Finials. Cast and sawn brass. Cylindrical handle narrowing towards the body of Finial. Finial consists of six arches decorated with sawn vegetal patterns. Four chains are suspended from each finial with decorations in shapes of a hand (Hamsa). Height: 30 cm. Fair-good condition. Missing Hamsas. Missing chain. Soldering repair of upper part of one finial (missing screw).

In the center of the finials is an alternating shape of a circle, star and arch. One finial has holes on the sides meant for chains with bells (missing). The four finials offered here have a very similar shape but they differ and are not pairs. Average height: 26 cm. Overall good condition. Holes and bends to one finial.

Pair of Torah finials. [Aden], Yemen, [19th-20th century]. Repouseé silver, engraved and embossed; filigree. Body of finials, shaped as a slightly flattened ball, decorated with stripes of geometric and vegetal patterns. Six chains with bells are suspended from the center. A ball on upper part topped with an additional decoration, with filigree and silver grains. A short and wide cylinder at the base is connected to the handle. An additional filigree ornamentation at the tip of the handle. Height: 25 cm. Fair-good condition. Bends, old repairs, holes.
