Portfolio containing ten aerial photographs of various locations in Palestine, taken by the photographer Zoltan Kluger. The portfolio was commissioned by Zalman Schocken and was presented by him as a gift to friends and well-wishers on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Jerusalem, September 1938.
Each photograph is mounted on cardboard with a label on the reverse in German describing the view seen in the image. The photographs, contained in their original cloth-covered box, show the following views: The Old City in Jerusalem, Mount Scopus, the Hebrew University, Tel-Aviv, Haifa Port, Rishon LeZion, Kfar Yehezkel, Moshav Beit-Yossef, Kfar Nahum and the Jordan River near Jericho. Included in the portfolio are two pages, one with a printed greeting from Schocken stating (in German), "I am happy to send you, even if belatedly, a collection of aerial photographs of Eretz Israel in appreciation of your kind greetings on the occasion of my 60th birthday," and the other with a list of the photographs. In this copy, Schocken added a personal handwritten greeting to the dedication leaf, signed by hand.

164 photos of a journey held in 1918 in Eretz Israel and the neighboring countries (Alexandria, Beirut). About 35 photos were taken in Jerusalem and the vicinity portraying sites in the city. Additional photos, some not common, were taken during the inauguration ceremony of the Hebrew University, during the pilgrimage to Nabi Mussa grave, in Nabi Samuel, in Nablus and the Shomron, in the Galilee and the Sea of Galilee, Mount Tabor, Nazareth, Synagogue in Caper Nahum, the Jordan river, Judean Desert, Caesarea, Mount Carmel, Jaffa and other sites. Photos 9X6.5 cm to 12X8 cm, in a cloth-bound album, 31X24.5 cm. Good condition.

Photos of the monument unveiling ceremony in memory of the Templers of Sarona who died in WW I. Jaffa, April 1926.
Seven photos in an album, annotated in detail by hand and dated. The names of seven of the photographed are listed, all of them Templer dignitaries.
Sarona in the fourth colony established by the German Templers in Eretz Israel in the second half of the 19th cent., about four kilometers north of Jaffa.
During WW I much tension prevailed between the Jews and the Sarona Templers: Tel-Aviv citizens were under the patronage of Czarist Russia (enemy of Germany), while many of the colony members joined the Emperor's army and the Templers colonies served as a German espionage and propaganda base. Average sizes of photos 11.5X17 cm, album 21.5X28 cm. Good condition.

The album was composed, probably, by a British soldier who stayed in Eretz Israel for a period of several years during his military service. More than 200 photos are contained in the album portraying visits / stay in the cities of Jaffa and Jerusalem and other sites in Eretz Israel (Haifa, Nazareth, the Jordan; archaeological sites, a train, Nabi Mussa festivities), amongst them numerous photos reflecting life in Eretz Israel during the 1930s (as well as photos from other countries). Several photos are in color. Sizes vary, 4X6.5 cm to 8.5X6 cm. Good condition. Album 35X27 cm, some detached leaves.
