A book containing 48 photographs by photographer Francis Bedfor (1816-1894). Bedford started to photograph early in the 1850s. In 1862 he was appointed by Queen Victoria to photograph Eretz Israel and its vicinity, during a trip with prince crown Edward the 7th. The photographs presented here were taken during that trip. Each photograph 12.5X9.5 cm, mounted on a board and annotated in print. VIII, 99 pp, 48 photograph plates, 24.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Elaborate binding, detached. Foresatz leaves are detached. One plate is detached. Several stains. Distortion of leaves and binding. Photographs in good condition.

Signed and annotated in the plate. Pairs of photographs are mounted on both sides of a heavy leaf. Average size 22.5X28 cm. In general good condition.

Photograph of "Har Zion" pharmacy front and the pharmacist Chaim Hausdorff. [Jerusalem, early 20th century].
Rabbi Chaim (Eliezer) Hausdorff (born in Jerusalem, 1864, died in New- York, 1940). Wrote several books, including: "Davar BeIto - Diney Uminhagei Erev Pesach Shechal BeShabat", in which he signs "Chaim Hausdorff, member of medical assistance of American Zionists [Hadassa] ". Son of Rabbi Azriel Zelig Hausdorff, of the constructors of "Batey Machase" in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem and a well known figure in the Jerusalem old Yishuv. 50.5X33.5 cm. Fair condition. Tears to corners and borders, slight damages, stains. Wooden frame 68X47.5 cm, restored. A later annotation in pen on the reverse.

Nineteen black and white photographs documenting the Jewish Legion in Eretz Israel and in Cairo during World War I and afterwards, by Ya'akov Ben-Dov, [ca.1915- 1920].
All of the photographs are attached to paper leaves decorated with printed shapes of Magen David and pasted "Zion" stamps, most of them are annotated by hand (at a later date): handing of a Torah and a flag to the legion, prayer in the legion, office of the Jewish Legion in Jerusalem, the Legion's kitchen and cooks, the Legion in Haifa, guarding on the Kishon, graves of the Legion's casualties on Mount Scopus, burial ceremony of a Legion's soldier, the Legion's camp on Mount Scopus, reception in honor of the Legion in Zrifin, the Legion in Cairo, the medical staff of the Legion, the Legion's choir (annotated in the plate). Size varies, 5.5X8.5 cm. to 14.5X20.5 cm. General condition - good. A folding-mark and creases to the photograph of the choir.
