La fiancée du septiéme jour, poéme, VII burins et nois graves, Abram Krol. [Seventh day fiancee]. Paris, 1955. Seven poems in prose by Abraham Krol, accompanied by seven of his engravings.
Abram (Abraham) Krol (1919-2001) Painter and engraving-artist was born in Pabianice, near Lodz, Poland. Studied engineering in France and survived the holocaust under false identity, working as a mechanic in a garage in Avignon. Started art studies in 1943 and held his first exhibition in 1946.
Many biblical images are integrated into Krol's work, reflecting the Chasidic neighborhood where he grew up, as can be well observed in the book in front of us.
Copy number 25 out of a 99-copies edition signed by the artist and numbered, printed on heavy and of high quality paper. On title page is a long dedication handwritten by the artist and signed.
XLVI, [4] pages, 16.5X26.5cm. Very good condition. Pamphlets not sewn. Paper jacket somewhat torn, cardboard box with minor damages.

Bücherei des Schocken Verlags 1-92 – complete set of an important book series, which had a great impact on German Jewry under the Nazi Regime.
The series was Zalman Schocken’s idea and was edited and designed by Dr. Moshe Spitzer with the cooperation of Lamberdt Schneider, Martin Buber and Walter Benjamin.
The series’ idea was to bring the best of Jewish culture to the German public, in a popular, carefully designed edition. The 83 books were published between 1933 and 1938, quite a rare achievement in quality and quantity.
Book 68, Die Judenbuch, was censored by the Nazis and replaced by a different book.
The present set is complete (and includes the two books numbered 68) and is in very good condition.
