Historical atlas containing dozens of hand-colored maps (printed on 43 numbered plates, 24 of them double-spread), including: eight small maps of Palestine in various historical periods, since its conquest in 1451 BC to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. (printed side by side on a double-spread plate); two large maps of Palestine, one of its northern and the other of its southern region (printed on double-spread plates); a map of ancient and modern Jerusalem (double-spread plate); map of the vicinity of Jerusalem; and more. Accompanied by a descriptive text and indices of various localities and sites.
According to the introduction, the biblical maps were drawn by Trelany Saunders, under the supervision of the secretary of The Palestine Exploration Fund, George Grove. The maps of the classical world were drawn by Charles Müller.
[3] ff., 26 pp. [26] ff. + 43 engraved maps (24 on double-spread plates), 49.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains and blemishes (mostly minor, on verso of plates). Worming to margins, not affecting text or maps. Pen notations on front endpaper. Stamp to title page. Half-leather binding, stained and worn, with scuffs to back cover and margins. The binding and first leaves are partly detached.
