Album with about 120 photographs, titled by hand on the leaves (English), documenting the service of a soldier in the British Military Engineering forces in Egypt and Palestine (most photographs are from Egypt). Ca. 1930s.
The album includes: * About 15 photographs from Palestine and Jerusalem (Western Wall, Dome of the Rock, Gethsemane, Amrican Colony, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, figures in the Old City, Nazareth, Ramla and more). * Dozens of photographs of bridge and canals (constructing a bridge in Ismailia, assembling a floating bridge on Lake Timsah, attack-bridges for infrantry soldiers, manual ferry, many photographs of sea vessels in the Suez Canal and the sweet water canal in Ismailia, and more). * Dozens of photographs of sites and views in Cairo, Port Said, Ismailia and other places in Egypt (Pyramids, Sphinx, fishermen village, women pumping water, Arab policeman riding a camel, Bedouins in traditional costumes, vendors' carts and more). * More photographs.
Some of the photographs portray, most probably, soldiers from the unit in which the album owner served, during operations of assembling bridges and other operations.
Total of about 120 photographs. Average size: approx. 9X6 cm. Good condition. Slight defects. Album: approx. 21.5X16 cm. Slight damages to margins of leaves. Leather binding, slightly worn.
