This is a new abridged edition divided into 12 chapters edited by Rabbi Binyamin ben Rabbi Avraham Anavim. The original composition was divided into seven chapters. Until the edition of Sefer Yereim HaShalem was printed (Vilna, 1892-1902), all the editions copied this edition.

Many have doubted the authenticity of the book especially the author of Seder HaDorot and the Chida. However, the book is an important source of many historic legends.
The title page is partially missing. An ancient signature in Italian handwriting: "It has reached me Menachem…'. Another signature: "Shmuel Shemaya Papo" – Rabbi Shmuel Shemaya Papo, an Ancona sage, son of the Mekubal Rabbi Avraham David Papo Av Beit Din of Ancona, son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Zakut. The Chida met when visiting Ancona in 1754 and he documented the meeting in his travel journel Ma'agal Tov.

A leading Torah sage of his times, Dayan, chief rabbi and head of yeshiva in Venice. Corresponded with great scholars of his generation such as the Maharshal, the Rama (his relative) and Rabbi Yosef Karo. His son is Rabbi Shaul Wohl, who was the legendary king of Poland for one day.
Half the sermons are eulogies for the sages of his times including a eulogy on the death of Rabbi Moshe Isserles - the Rama and Rabbi Yosef Karo, the author of the Shulchan Aruch.
