A Bezalel box depicting a procession bringing the first fruits to Jerusalem. Made at the Bezalel workshop, Jerusalem, [1910s].
Brass, hammered and etched. Marked in Hebrew: "Bezalel Jerusalem".
The lid depicts a procession offering the first fruits, reading "Kumu vena'ale Zion el Hashem Eloheinu" ["Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the Lord our God", Jeremiah 31:6] within a frame depicting the Seven Species of the Land of Israel. The image of the procession – men, women and children marching with musical instruments and animals – is executed combining bas-relief on an etched background. The side panels are decorated with a geometric and a vegetal pattern, consisting of the Seven Species. The front panel reads "Hava'at Bikurim Bezalel Yerushalem" ("First fruits offering, Bezalel Jerusalem"; Hebrew) within a round medallion.
18.5X10.5 cm. Height: 4.5 cm. Good condition. Stains to bottom and hinge. Minor damage. A small engraving depicting a stag on the bottom.

Silver bracelet, designed by Ze'ev Raban, inspired by Isaiah's End Time prophecy. Marked: Made in Palestine ST 925. Jerusalem, [second quarter of 20th century].
Composed of eight links, the first inscribed "It shall come to pass in the last days… and they shall beat their swords into plowshares… the wolf shall dwell with the lamb" (Hebrew. Isiah 2, Isaiah 11), the rest depicting scenes based on chapter 11 in the Book of Isaiah.
Length: 17 cm, width: 1 cm.

Matzah plate after the Passover Haggadah by Ze'ev Raban. Italy, [second half of the 20th century].
Pewter, cast; marked on verso "Handcrafted / Made in Italy".
Square bas-relief plate after Ze'ev Raban's title page to the Passover Haggadah of his design, executed in 1925 but published only decades later. The lip reads "Matzah" (Hebrew), depicting the Passover sacrifice and a pair of sphynxes flanking pyramids. Central three-tier frieze, depicting scenes of the slavery in Egypt and the exodus, flanked by two palm trees.
This singular plate was presumably made to order; no other copies are known of.
29.5X30 cm. Depth: 2 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains and minor blemishes.

"Jewish National Fund Jerusalem, calendar for the year 5684, 1923-24, a gift to representatives of the Jewish National Fund" (Hebrew). Design: Ze'ev Raban. Jerusalem: "Graphica" publishing at "Zion" printing press. Hebrew and German.
A calendar for representatives and activists of the Jewish National Fund, with instructions for monthly fundraising events and propaganda for the Jewish National Fund, based on the Jewish holidays and other important dates. The second to last leaf lists important dates in the history of the Zionist Movement and the last leaf consists of a map of Palestine showing the land purchased by the Jewish National Fund.
The leaves of the calendar are stapled with two staples to an ornate card board depicting the portraits of Theodor (Binyamin Ze'ev) Herzl and Zvi Hermann Shapira (who conceived the Jewish National Fund) and a panoramic depiction of the work of the Jewish National Fund – draining swamps, planting trees, working the land and building the country. The card board and the calendar title page, depicting the twelve Zodiac signs, were designed by Ze'ev Raban.
Calendar: 12X14.5 cm. Card board: 23X30 cm. Good condition. Handwritten markings and notations to calendar. Minor blemishes. Small tears, repaired with acid-free tape. Hole to corner of board.

Classic Kerman-style floral rug, made at the Bezalel workshop. Jerusalem, [1920s].
Wool knot-pile; cotton foundation.
Large rug inspired by traditional Persian Kerman rugs. Motif of dense flowering vines strewn with large flowers and minuscule Stars of David. At both ends the vine branches intertwine to create the figure of a seven-armed menorah. Signed "Bezalel Jerusalem" in the border.
190X337 cm. Good-fair condition. Overall fading. Some damage. One edge is re-woven in four sections.

The central panel depicts hunting dogs overpowering a gazelle, surrounded by a background of foliage and flowers. Foliate border in the style of Art Nouveau. Signed "Bezalel Jerusalem" in upper and lower borders.

Large Qashqai-style rug, made at the Marbadiah/Bezalel workshop. [Jerusalem, 1920s].
Wool knot-pile; cotton foundation.
The central panel features three rhomboid medallions within a triple rhomboid field, depicting star-shaped roundels, flowers, foliage and animals. Triple border, the central of which shows a Star of David pattern.
This rug's design and iconography (except the Stars of David) follows the rug-making tradition of the Turkish-Iranian Qashqai tribe.
315X164 cm. Good condition. Fading. Edges partly restored and somewhat unraveling. Cropped fringes.

Collection of poems by Yiddish poet Isaac Berliner, accompanied by twelve illustrations and a portrait of the poet by his friend, the artist Diego Rivera. Signed in the plate.
Poet Isaac Berliner (1899-1957), born in Lodz, immigrated to Mexico in 1922. His poems, some of which deal with political and social issues, influenced contemporary Mexican artists, including Diego Rivera (1886-1957) and Rivera's wife, artist Frida Kahlo.
207, [4] pp, approx. 23.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Tears to margins of several dozens of pages at the beginning of the book, slightly affecting two of the illustrations. Several pages remained unopened at top. Closed and open tears to margins of cover and spine. Sticker to lower spine. Back cover detached.
