A book about Jerusalem by George Williams (1814-1878), an Anglican priest and teacher at Cambridge, who arrived in Palestine with the entourage of the first Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem. The book was written in an attempt to refute the research conclusions of Edward Robinson and Eli Smith in Jerusalem regarding the identification of biblical sites.
The book is accompanied by 16 plates, including lithographs depicting views and sites in Jerusalem (one of the lithographs – a bird's eye view of Jerusalem – is printed on a large, linen-backed folding plate), a map of Jerusalem (double plate, partly hand-colored), plan of the interior of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (double plate, colored), and more. Some small in-text illustrations.
XV, [1], 512 pp + [16] plates, approx. 22 cm. Good condition. Some stains. Half-leather binding, slightly worn at its edges.

2. Palaestinae sive Terrae Promissionis in duodecim Tribus partitae facies vetus…, an engraved map by John Blair, from the book The Chronology and History of the World. [London, 1768]. Hand-colored.

5. Palestine, reduced by arrangement with the committee of the Palestine Exploration Fund […], a large map, presumably from "Bradley's atlas of the world for commercial and library reference", [Philadelphia, 1884?].
Approx. 45X59 cm. Fair-good condition. Tears. Open tears all along the edges, not affecting the map. Mounted in its upper margins on a cardboard plate.
