Two share certificates – Banque Commerciale de Palestine (Commercial Bank of Palestine). Monsohn press, Jerusalem, [early 20th century]. Arabic and French.
Two share certificates of the "Commercial Bank of Palestine; with 16 coupons each.
"The Commercial Bank of Palestine" operated during the years 1909-1920 and was considered by the Arabs in Palestine to be their national bank. The bank was managed by Salim Bei Ayub and employed Arabs, Christians and Muslims.
Half of the bank's shares were held by the Anglo-Palestine Company. David Levontin, director of Anglo-Palestine Company, initiated the partnership, under the assumption that an Ottoman company managed by Arabs would have a better chance of obtaining concessions for development enterprises.
Approx. 30X36.5 cm. Good condition. Folding marks, some folds and creases at margins. Top and bottom margins of both certificates are cut (wavy cut at top), affecting the text and the frame.
