Among the items: • A letter from the governor of the Jerusalem district to Yitzhak Yaakobi, the founder of the Beit Hakerem neighborhood, allowing him to purchase three rifles for the neighborhood’s defense. September 1936. Signed in handwriting by the governor’s representative, stamped "Beit Hakerem Mutual Association Ltd." and signed by Yaakobi. • Draft of a memo from the Hebrew Gymnasium in Jerusalem (typewritten with corrections in handwriting), which was sent with a request to "assist in finding learning equipment for physics, chemistry, zoology, botany, and anyone who can help enrich the library". Probably written on the eve of the opening of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, it includes an interesting overview of the history of the Gymnasium and its financial situation. • "Album for the Dubek photo collection, published in 1939" – booklet for collecting stickers (filled). • Approx. 20 postcards (including postcards published by Lebanon, the Eliyahu Brothers, Y. The text and the foreword at the beginning of the book were written by David Martin, a French Protestant theologian. Since the book was published by the Dutch cartographer and engraver Pieter Mortier (1661-1711), it is often referred to as "Mortier's Bible."
[20], 282, [8]; [20], 154, 20 pp. + plates, approx. 41 cm. Leather binding. Good condition. Large dampstain on the first leaves of the book and a few stains on the subsequent leaves. A small number of tears. Minor worming. Some pages and plates are bound upside down. The binding is reinforced with paper strips on the inside (along the seam between covers and endpapers). Restored tears in the endpapers. Damaged binding, with restoration.

The book – which deals, among other things, with customs and laws of marriage, marital relations, circumcision, and burial – contains two engravings. The first depicts a Jewish wedding held outdoors, and the second depicts a circumcision ceremony.
After converting to Christianity, Selig taught Judaism and rabbinic literature in Leipzig, and between 1768 and 1772 he published a nine-part series, also entitled "Der Jude," which dealt comprehensively and in detail with Jewish life and customs. The volume offered here is the first in a series meant to complement his previous work.

The book contains 254 illustrations of ancient Jewish coins. A plate containing the Phoenician, ancient Hebrew, Sumerian, Aramaic and other alphabets appears at the beginning of the book.
