Four metal medals awarded in Betar sports competitions. [Presumably in China, 1935-1937].
Engraved on three medals, in Cyrillic letters, is the legend "Бетар" [Betar], the type of sport of this competition or the competing teams, a Hebrew letter and the year in which this competition took place: "Volleyball, "B", 1936"; "'A' Triatlon, 1937"; "'C against B, 1937". Engraved on the fourth medal: " Б.Т., VIII 1935 XII, K. III C., COP"ב.
Mentioned in the "Betar Book" about the history of the organization (published by "the committee for publishing Betar Book", Jerusalem-Tel-Aviv, 1969) is the fact that the "activity of both commissions [in China] was mainly a comprehensive and excellent activity in all the fields of sports, in closed halls and special fields, as well as in all of the camping and scouting fields – outdoors" (vol. 2, p.837). Members of the organization in China emphasized in particular sports exercises and physical fitness in order to be able to defend themselves against anti-Semitic assaults on the part of Russian immigrants who were members in organizations of anti-Semitic nature and even to counter-attack.
Approx. 3.5X2 – 4 X 2.5 cm. Good condition. Stains. Scratches.

Jewish National Fund donation box with a map of Palestine. Palestine, [late 1930s or 1940s].
This donation box, of the Zion model, on which the map of Palestine, without the Negev region, is printed, is large, and intended for use by public institutions and conferences where funds were raised for the JNF. A handle and hanger for hanging were placed on the back in order to make the public use of the box more efficient. This particular box has a design flaw: the base containing the lock was placed at the top of the box, while the top, containing the opening for the insertion of coins, was placed at the bottom.
Approx. 12.5 x 17.5 x 7.5 cm. Good–fair condition. The paint is damaged. Rust, dents, and scratches.
Literature: "Blue Box" by Shaul Ladani and Dotan Shulman. Jerusalem: JNF, 2014. 134 pp.

16 printed tiles with paintings by Shalom Moskowitz, the " Zeigermacher of Safed" (1896-1980). Israel, [1970s].
The tiles (made by "Negev"), framed in wooden frames, depict urban and rural views, people and animals – all in the naïve style of Moskowitz. Among the tiles – three pairs of identical tiles framed in double frames – two identical tiles in a frame. The label:"Shalom Israeli tiles, Doron NY. Made in Israel, 1974" appears on some of the frames.
Shalom Moskowitz (1896-1980), born in Safed, worked as a watch-maker and signs painter until his workshop was destroyed during the Independence War; he started to paint relatively late in a naïve style, and focused on biblical themes. Encouraged by the painter Yosl Bergner he made painting his main occupation. His knowledge of the sources and rich imagination led to the figurative paintings of biblical stories; naivety and humor are interrelated in his works.
Tiles: 15X15 cm. Frames: 21.5X22 cm. Double frames: 36.5X21 cm. Good condition. Some stains on the tiles. Slight fractures to margins of some of the tiles. Some frames are defected and partially broken. One tile is detached from frame.
