Ten pins from Palestine. Ca. first half of the 20th century.
• Lapel pins with the word "Enlisted" (in Hebrew) beneath a tower and stockade. • "Defender of Jerusalem" – two identical pins; a lion is depicted in the center with an Israeli flag and a Star of David in the background. • Pin bearing the Hebrew legend "My heart for my people" above crossed swords. A Star of David at the top with the Hebrew initials heh-lamed-heh inside. • "For the defense of the homeland" – pin with the image of a lion holding an Israeli flag in the center, with the Tower of David in the background, and above it the legend "Judah is a lion’s cub." This pin may have been used by the Field Corps troops of the Haganah that were stationed in the area of Mamilla during the War of Independence. • Pin in the shape of the Israeli flag with crossed swords around it. • Pin in the shape of a flag, with crossed swords and sheaves of wheat around it. At the center of the flag (against a red background) is the legend "For labor and defense." • Pin of the National Service Enlistment Center.

The collection includes, among others, pins of Tel-Aviv, Ramat-Gan, Bnei-Brak, Dimona, Ein Yahav, Hanita, Maon Region, Kafar Kama, Rahat, Mazkeret Batia, Ramat Rachel, Sderot, Nazareth, Neot Kedumim, Ovdat, Safed, Faran, Yarka, Yamit, and more. Some of the pins in this collection were given as Bar-Mitzva or Bat-Mitzva gifts or given to workers in the municipality, and some of the pins were created to commemorate the jubilee of a settlement or following the declaration of a settlements as a city.

The items include: • Pins of various officials in the Jerusalem municipality. • Two pins from 1965 bearing the symbol of the Upper Galilee Regional Council, the sculpture of the roaring lion, Mount Hermon, a fruit tree, and sheaves of wheat. A legend in French appears on the pins. They were evidently created on the occasion of a twin cities agreement with province of Québec. • Pins bearing the symbols of Or Yehuda, Acre, and Ma’ale Adumim. • A pin marking the 25th anniversary of employment in the Haifa Municipality. • And more.
Enclosed: A pin from the month of Adar (February-March) 1949 depicting Masada. The pin was evidently created to commemorate Operation Yitzuv, which was fought by the Alexandroni Brigade from March 2 to 9, 1949 (1-8 Adar 5709), which resulted in the capture of large amounts of territory in the eastern Negev and Dead Sea regions, including Masada and Ein Gedi.
