Ceramic souvenir plate, decorated with a map of the Land of Israel and a portrait of Herzl, created to mark the establishment of the State of Israel. United States, [ca. 1950].
A map of the Land of Israel according to the 1948 borders is depicted at the center of the plate. The emblem of the State of Israel appears in the middle. A portrait of Herzl appears on the left, against the background of the sea. At the edge of the plate is the sentence "If you will it, it is no dream". The flag of Israel, six-pointed stars, and the caption "In commemoration of the Jewish State, Israel 1948" appear around the plate's outer edge. The outer rim is decorated with a gold stripe.
Verses from the Bible in which the land is promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob appear (in English) on the reverse of the plate, and beneath them the caption "Designed by Reverend Judah L. Wise, Reproduced by Excelsior."
