Large Collection of Bookstore Labels

Opening: $800
Sold for: $3,250
Including buyer's premium
A collection of about 2600 labels, stickers and inked stamps of bookstores. Palestine, Europe and the United States [20th century].
An extensive and diverse collection of labels of book sellers, antiquarians, textbooks and stationery stores, university book stores, book merchants and book binders. The labels are intended for pasting on the inner side of the book binding.
Numerous labels in this collection are European, dating to the early 20th century, and representing a great number of stores - many of them Jewish - for books and accompanying products. Some labels tell the story of the development of the store for which they were made, and the changes it underwent over time. Many of the labels in this collection are of bookstores in Palestine (some of them are from the first decades of the 20th century). Some items appear in numerous copies.
Size and condition vary. Some of the labels are partly attached to paper sheets.
