Kolenu [Our Voice], a Hebrew Zionist journal for the Jews of India. Thirteen issues bound together. Bombay: "The Jewish Agency, the Department for Religious Education and Culture in the Diaspora", 1955-1956. Hebrew and a little English.
The issues contain various sections meant to familiarize the Jews of India with Israel and Zionism: "Man of the Month", "Institutions and Movements", "Articles from Israeli Newspapers", "Israeli History" and "Homeland". A special section, "Members Write", was presumably dedicated to publishing the first attempts of members of the Jewish community of India to write in Hebrew. On each one of the title pages appears an illustration connected to a holiday or event that occurs during that month, and on the back page of some of the issues appears a crossword in various shapes: a Dreidel, a Purim mask, an airplane and more.
Thirteen issues in eleven booklets (issues 1-12 of the second year and issue 1 of the third year). Hardbound. Size varies, approx. 32 cm. Good condition.
Enclosed: a booklet in Marathi language, Bombay: Simeon Jacob Press, Solomon David Shapurkar publishing, 1953. Presumably, the booklet contains advice for Jews wishing to emigrate from India to Israel (see NLI Catalog, no. 003836853). 12 pp, 13 cm. Good condition. Stains. Minor blemishes.
