A description of the journey of the American photographer Dwight Lathrop Elmendorf to Palestine in 1901, with a hundred of photographic plates and a map detailing his travels.
The photographic plates depict various sights from Palestine: landscapes and sites, including churches, mosques and synagogues; Arab, Jewish and Bedouin residents; and more. Alongside each plate there is a page with the title of the photograph, verses and references to verses of the bible and the New Testament.
XIV, 56 pp + [100] plates, approx. 24cm. Good condition. Ex-library copy (bookplate, stamps and handwriting on the front and back endpapers. A paper pocket on the inside of the back binding. Handwriting on the spine). Minor tears along the connection between the endpaper and the front binding. Minor blemishes to spine.

45 plates with quality printed photographs by Leo Kahn, from the series Palästina im Bild [Palestine in Pictures], Vienna: Jüdischer Zeitung, [1912].
All the plates are captioned in print (German) and hand-colored.
The photographs were taken in 1912, during Kahn's trip to Palestine on behalf of the Judische Zeitung journal and the JNF and they depict settlements and cities in Palestine, students of the Hebrew Gymnasium and Bezalel, Yemenite Jews, and more. One plate appears in two copies.
Photographs: 8x11.5 cm, printed on 17x20 cm plates. Good condition. Stains and minor blemishes to margins.

A group photograph of the students and teachers of the school established by the "Ezra" Society in Jaffa. Among the photographed, the writer and translator Alexander Ziskind Rabinowitz (Azar), who was a teacher at the schools of "Ezra" and "Tachkemoni", and the student Yosef Sapir (1902-1972), who was later a minister of the Israeli government.
The photograph is captioned in Hebrew in the plate ("The School for Boys established by the 'HaEzra' Society'") and stamped with the stamp of the photographer Avraham Soskin (embossed). On the frame of the photograph, a handwritten Hebrew note is mounted: "1910, I am sitting in the second row … behind Yosef Sapir".

A large group photograph of eighteen of the members of the Bilu Movement (Palestine Pioneers), founders of the Moshava (colony) Gedera, by the photographer Avraham Soskin. Gedera, [1913].
Among the photographed there are several of the prominent leaders of the first wave of immigration: Menashe Meirovitz, Zalman David Levontin, Yosrael Belkind, Chaim Chissin, and others. On the upper part of the photograph there is a handwritten Hebrew caption: "The Biluyim in Palestine, in memory of the 30th anniversary, the 23rd of Iyar 1913". And on its lower part appear the names of all the photographed.
Signed on the plate on the lower right corner: "Soskin. Brooke. Jaffa" (Hebrew).
Approx. 30x22.5 cm. Framed. Good condition. Minor blemishes and slight wear to edges. Coloring in the center of the photograph.

"Moshav HaZekenim Hakelali HaMe'uchad" (The General United Retirement Home) was founded in the late 1870s in the Old City of Jerusalem. When the building did not have enough room for all its residents, it was decided to move them to a new building at the entrance to the city, the construction of which was completed in 1901. The building was evacuated in 1966 and the Central Bus Station of Jerusalem was built where it stood.
