Győr-ujvarosi Izr. Templom. Four architectural sketches (copies) of the great synogague in the city of Újváros Győr (Raab in German), Hungary, [ca. 1920s].
The sketches present the façade of the structure and sections of the various floors. Unsigned.
The magnificent synagogue of the city of Győr was dedicated in 1870. In the 1920s, with the growth of the Jewish population of the city (about 5500 residents), the synagogue was renovated and expanded and apparently, these sketches were prepared at that time. After WWII, the synagogue was sold to a local authority, renovated and restored and today serves as a municipal culture center.
Size varies, 40X47 cm. to 48X49 cm. Overall good condition. Creases and tears to edges. Tears reinforced with adhesive tape. Several pencil inscriptions on verso. Rolled.

The book features dozens of obituaries, eulogies and lamentations which appeared in newspapers after his death and two photo plates, one with his portrait and the other with an illustration of a fountain in his memory.
Limited edition of 40 copies.

The first Jewish settlers in Suriname in the 17th century were Spanish and Portuguese Marrano Jews. The Dutch granted rights to the Jewish immigrants and allowed the establishment of an autonomic Jewish territory in Suriname named Joden Savanne. The community supported itself mainly by growing sugarcane.
