Portrait of the Gaon of Vilna – large color lithograph. Germany, [early 20th century].
The Gaon of Vilna is seen seated at his desk, wrapped in a tallit, holding a book in one hand and writing with a feather on a paper laid out before him.
The inscription reads: "The Gaon R. Eliyahu of Vilna… author of Shenot Eliyahu, born 1st day of Pesach 1725, d. 19th Tishrei 1794".
Approx. 38.5X51 cm. Good condition. Creases. Tears to margins. Framed; unexamined out of frame.
Provenance: The Yeshayahu Vinograd Collection, Jerusalem.

Portraits of the Gaon of Vilna, R. Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor Rabbi of Kovno and R. Meir Leibush Malbim – color lithograph. [Germany, early 20th century].
The portraits are within three decorated medallions. The top medallion frames the portrait of the Gaon of Vilna, wrapped in a Tallit, with the caption: "The Gaon… Rabbenu Eliyahu, Rabbi of Vilna, d. 1794". The lower right medallion frames the portrait of the Malbim, with the caption: "R. Meir Leibush Malbim, rabbi of Lunshitz and Königsberg, d. 1880". The lower left medallion frames the portrait of R. Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, with the inscription: "The great Torah scholar, R. Yitzchak Elchanan, rabbi of Kovno, d. 1896".
The portrait of the Gaon of Vilna is surmounted by a crown held by two lions and topped with a Star of David, with the caption: "Keter Torah".

1. Multifold New Year greeting card, with a "Shana Tova" blessing in Yiddish. Opens up to reveal pictures of rabbis and of Zionist Jewish figures such as the Gaon of Vilna, Theodor Herzl, Moses Montefiore, and composite photographs of prominent Torah leaders and Torah leaders in Britain. [Europe?, early 20th century]. One or more parts may be lacking.
2. Shir HaShirim by Avraham son of Meir Luria, in five parts. New York, 1907. Includes poems in honor of the Rambam and the Gaon of Vilna, with their portraits.
3. Renaissance, a monthly journal, edited by Leah Koenig. London, 1920. Yiddish.
The front cover bears a picture of the Gaon of Vilna, with the inscription: "The Vilna Gaon, Two Hundred Years Since His Birth". The same picture was also printed on a plate in the book.
4. Luach HaMazkir, calendar for the year 5700 [1939-1940], compiled by "Ben-Yaakov". Riga: B. Scherschewsky, [1939]. Yiddish. A picture of the Gaon of Vilna is printed on the front cover.
