Levant Fair, Inauguration. Large advertising poster for the opening ceremony of the Levant Fair. Strood Press, Tel Aviv, [1936]. Signed in print: "L" [apparently Oskar Lachs]. Hebrew and English.
Large illustrated poster - invitation to the opening ceremony of the Levant Fair in April 1936. The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor of Tel Aviv, Meir Dizengoff, and the British High Commissioner Arthur Wauchope. The band of the 1st Btn. of the Loyal Regiment (British military orchestra) played during the ceremony.
95X122.5 cm (two attached sheets). Good-fair condition. Folding marks and creases. Stains. Tears, partly restored, with color substitutions. Linen-backed for display and preservation (extensive foxing on the linen).

The event was organized by the Center for Local Produce (Totzeret HaAretz), the Women's International Zionist Organization (WIZO), and the Women Workers' Committee of the Workers' Union and was attended by Henrietta Szold, Hadassah Samuel, Gertrud Kraus, Bracha Tsfira and other famous women.

The debut concert of the Palestine Philharmonic Orchestra was held in December 1936 at the "Levant Fair" hall in Tel Aviv. The concert's conductor was the famous Arturo Toscanini.

Café "Teka" was one of the oldest coffee shops on Ben Yehudah Street in Tel-Aviv. This advertising poster, designed by David Shneur (1905-1988), portrays the logo of the coffee shop - a boy with a sack on his back.
Approx. 63.5X88.5 cm. Fair condition. Mounted on thick cardboard. Creases and folding marks. A number of tears. Stains. A strip (4 cm wide) is lacking at the lower part. Framed.

Ten years ago: The Nazis Burned These Books… but free Americans Can Still Read Them. A lithograph poster printed on behalf of the United States Office of War Information (American-government agency which operated during World War II and distributed propaganda). [Washington, 1943]. English.
In the center of the poster is a photograph showing the burning of the books organized by the Nazi propaganda office and held in May 1933 in the Berlin opera place.
Such propaganda posters were distributed in the United States when it entered the war to present to the American public the danger of the Nazi enemy.
