Ketuba for the wedding of the groom Reuven Algranati with the “young and modest bride” Kaliope Salmoni.
The rabbis signed as witnesses are: “The Tzaddik Moshe Azulay, Sahid. The young Chaim Makalai, Sahid”. Ancona (Italy), Spring 1852.
The Gaon Rabbi Moshe Azulay of Ancona, (1747-1853), author of the “Zichron Moshe” and “The Lechem Min Ha-Shamayim – Ruach Chaim”, son of Rabbi Rafael Yeshaya (1743-1826) son of the Hida and Rabbi of Ancona. Before he was born, his grandfather the Hida predicted a boy will be born and his name will be Moshe, who is the seventh generation of Rabbi Avaraham Azulay (author of the “Chesed Le- Avraham”), just like Moshe Rabeinu was the seventh generation of Avraham Avinu. [He was very dear to his grandfather, the Hida, who writes about him with love and respect “The sharp witted Moshe”, “The fine Moshe”]. Used to sign his name “MAY”N” [=Moshe Azulay Ya’ir Nero].
Scribe calligraphy on high quality parchment. Adorned with a colorful, floral themed frame.

The obligations of the bridegroom and the bride's father: her dowry, sustenance for two years, and obligation to "try and attain the goodwill of the rulers here in Oettingen… ".
Signatures of parents of bride and groom, the bridegroom and guarantors: "David ben Isaac of Oettingen, Mordechai ben David of Oettingen, Avraham (father of the bride, Hendel), Moshe ben Yitzchak on behalf of the bridegroom, Avraham on behalf of the bride".
33 cm. On reverse side of leaf another inscription. Good condition, folding marks and stains.

Printed bill of “Seder Tna’im Rishonim” . [Rom print, Vilna], 1875.
Bill filled out in the city of Brisk, Tevet 1889. Upon the engagement of the groom Mordechai son of Moshe Michael HaCohen to the bride Malka Leah son of Shmuel David. The wedding was set for the month of Sivan in the city of Shershav. [In many congregations throughout Lithuania and Poland it was customary to produce two bills of stipulations, the first upon finalizing the Shidduch which is called Seder Tna’im Rishonim and the second on the wedding day, prior to the Chuppah]. The name of the printer appears in Cyrillic letters.
21.5 cm. Fair condition, signs of wear and multi-colored mildew stains.

6 printed [blank] Ketubah forms, in various colors and sizes, published by Ya’akov Meshulam Greenfeld. [New York], [1953].
One of the Ketubot contains an English translation, and is designed as a marriage certificate.
Attached is a printed letter in Hebrew and English, by Rabbi Ya’akov Meshulam Greenfeld, who was a well-known Torah scholar and a scribe prior to the Holocaust [for additional information related to him see attached material]: “… I used to be a scribe in the city of Makava and after all the hardship which I endured I was saved with G-D’s mercy… therefore I decided to design a magnificent Ketubah… ”.
Total of 7 paper items. Various sizes and conditions (good to fair).

The blessing was handwritten in Hebrew and German inside a luxurious door and pillars frame illustrated by hand, painted in red, purple, yellow and green shades with gilded adornments.
“…King of the Universe, please look from the celestial throne / And bless Heinrich and Anuţa with longevity … Save [the couple] from harm, disaster and desolation / and may they be met with good blessings on the land of Romania…”. Hebrew and German.
32.5 cm leaf. Fair condition. Folding marks. Tears on the edges. Stains and light moisture damage.

“In the city of Singapore situated on the sea-shore”. Scribe writing upon sketched paper. On bottom of page noting in pencil “Pasul” [invalid].
Jews began to arrive in Singapore in the year 1840 (especially from Iraq, India and Iran). Prior to World War II the congregation consisted of 2,500 Jews. During the War, while Singapore was governed by Japan, the majority of the Jews were detained in Japanese prisons. Upon their release after the War, the majority left Singapore to the US, Britain, Israel and Australia. Currently there are approximately 300 Jews residing in Singapore.
