Large collection of photographs of the Rebbe of Chabad and his "shluchim" (emissaries) in Eretz Israel and the United States: celebrations for finishing studying the Rambam, various campaigns, food distribution, Lag Ba'Omer parades, and more.
The collection includes:
* 10 photographs and 6 prints from the color separation process depicting the Rebbe: in consultation, wearing Talit and Tefillin, with David Buskila (head of the Sderot city council), on Erev Yom Kippur performing the "kapparot" ritual, distributing charity to children, and more. Several photographs (some in color), following the Rebbe's stroke towards the end of his life.
* 76 photographs (and an additional print from the color separation process) from various Chabad events and campaigns. "Responsa by… R. Yitzchak son of R. Sheshet" - the Rivash responsa. [Constantinople, 1546-1547]. Printed by Eliezer Soncino. First edition.
A fundamental book of responsa and halacha. The Rivash, who closed the period of the Rishonim was born in Spain in 1326 and died in Algeria in 1408. His primary teacher was Rabbeinu Nissim bar Reuven (the Ran). He was also a disciple of R. Chasdai Crescas and of Rabbi Peretz HaCohen.
The book was printed in separate pamphlets and distributed to buyers on Shabbat in the synagogue as was customary in Constantinople in those days. Constantinople rabbis debated the propriety of this custom [see: A. Ya'ari, the Hebrew printing presses in Constantinople, Jerusalem 1967, p. 103, no. 145].
Ownership inscriptions and signatures on the title page and on the following leaf: "…Avraham Krispin", "…Gershon Shaul", "Yosef HaCohen Chimtzi", "Kalev son of Nissim…", etc. Signature (initials) on Leaf [28]. Several short handwritten notations.

Sefer Cheshek Shlomo, Biblical Ladino dictionary by R. Shlomo di Shirish. [Venice: Zuan (Giovanni) di Gara, 1588].
Ladino (Españolit) is the unique language spoken by Jews exiled from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). The language evolved from various dialects of Old Spanish, and therefore preserved words, expressions and structures that no longer exist in modern spoken Spanish. A large sector of the Jewish expellees settled within the Ottoman Empire, and thus Ladino was spoken in Turkey, North Africa, the Balkans, and the Middle East. For hundreds of years Spanish Jews preserved their original language and did not adopt the local tongue. For many generations, Ladino was used for daily conversation as well as for prayer and Torah study. Much Torah literature was translated into Ladino and original compositions were written in this language, most notably the Yalkut Me'Am Loez series by R. Ya'akov Kuli and his disciples. Today, Ladino speakers are dwindling and many efforts are being expended to preserve this language.

Many handwritten glosses by several different authors (mostly until Parashat Vayikra). Some glosses in Italian Hebrew handwriting from the period of the original printing (ca. 17th-18th century), whose author adds explanations and additions to the original text, including explanations from other midrashim and their commentaries such as Ein Yaakov, Matnot Kehuna, Ot Emet, R. Mizrachi, Korban Aharon and others. Another commentator (ca. 17th-18th century) wrote glosses with variant texts. Several pages contain English notes from a later period.
550, [1] leaves. 31.5 cm. Most of the volume is in good condition. Stains. Large dark stain on the title page and the following pages. Large tears with damage to text in the margins of the title page. Several of the glosses are trimmed. Old binding with leather spine; worn.
This is the first Hebrew book printed in Livorno. (See Friedberg, History of Hebrew Printing in Italy, p. 85; M. Benayahu, Haskama u-reshut bi-defusei Venetsya, p. 64). This edition of the Yalkut Shimoni differs from previous editions in that the printer proofread and edited the book "according to ancient correct manuscripts", and added entire sections not previously found in the Yalkut Shimoni.

The printing of the book ceased in the middle, at leaf 72 (existing leaves: from the beginning of Bereshit until the beginning of Parshat Tetzave), no title page was printed. The entire book was printed later in Livorno in 1793.
The name of the book does not appear in this printing, but the words "Birkat Eli'ahu" are handwritten at the beginning of each parshah, possibly in the author's handwriting (compare with the listing of the book in the NLI catalog).

Large collection of leaves and leaf-fragments removed from a "bindings' geniza". Including leaves from editions of the Babylonian Talmud (some are sections of the 1802 Constantinople edition, printed by Chaim Eliyahu Pardo). Many leaves are proofreading leaves and printing trials from Constantinople from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The handwritten corrections and glosses which appear on some of these leaves were later integrated into the final printing [see enclosed leaves for comparison]. Not all of the compositions have been identified.

Printed leaf, two letters by R. Shimshon Wertheimer of Vienna, regarding debts of the Jerusalem Ashkenazi community. [Constantinople, 1713/1714]. Unknown printer.
Single surviving leaf of a 4-leaf pamphlet. Contains two letters send by R. Shimshon Wertheimer of Vienna, one to R. Yosef son of Yissachar, the Sultan's physician in Constantinople, regarding debts of the Jerusalem Ashkenazi community accumulated after the aliya of R. Yehuda HeChassid and his followers.
This pamphlet was originally composed of four leaves. Only two leaves survived from its first printing (found in the JTS library. Only one leaf exists in the NLI). It was reprinted in a different typography and with the omission of several particularly trenchant lines. Only one leaf of the second printing survived (see: Ya'ari, The Hebrew Printing Presses in Constantinople, pp. 162-163, no. 280). This is a leaf of the second printing.
The first page is titled: "This is also a letter of the aforementioned ga'on" and ends with "By the small Shimshon, and greetings to the sages of the Sephardic countries…". On the second page is a letter to R. Yosef the physician: "Vienna, Monday, the 4th of Elul 1712…R. Yosef son of Yissachar…". The end of the letter is incomplete.
In 1801, R. Yehuda HeChassid and a group of his followers ascended to Jerusalem. Soon after, R. Yehuda died leaving the Jerusalem Ashkenazi community burdened with debts to the Jerusalem Arab community. The donations from abroad scarcely covered the Jewish community's living needs, let alone their burgeoning debts. R. Shimshon Wertheimer of Vienna, the well-known "court Jew", headed the committee which attempted to resolve the problem of these debts and applied to the court of the Turkish Sultan via the court physician with a request "to find a compromise with the debtors". The correspondence was printed at that time in Constantinople, however, no complete copy survived.

Collection of four books - books of prayers, Kabbalah and Halacha, printed in Jerusalem by R. Yisrael Bak, founder of the first printing press in Jerusalem, who formerly printed books in Berdychiv and in Safed. Disciple of R. Yisrael of Ruzhyn and of R. Levi Yitzchak of Berdychiv.
1. Chemda Genuza, Geonim responsa. Jerusalem, 1863. (S. HaLevi, no. 82). Signatures of R. Shmuel Heller [1786-1884, Rabbi of Safed for 60 years], and signatures of his grandson R. Moshe Deutsch, son-in-law of R. Avraham Yitzchak Heller of Safed [R. Moshe Deutsch of Siget and Safed, maternal grandfather of the Toldot Aharon Rebbe, R. Avraham Yitzchak Kahn].

4. Mo'adei Hashem V'Kri'ei Mo'ed, Part 1. Machzor, Sephardic tradition, for Pesach and Shavu'ot. Includes: Passover Haggadah and Tikun Lel Shavu'ot. Jerusalem, [1844]. Only second title page [lacking first title page and two other leaves (82-83) inside of the volume]. Variant: in the "Blessing for the King or for the Government" on page 51/b, the following version appears: "To our Master, the kind King, the Sultan His Majesty" [see S. HaLevi, no. 20, on the three types of forms which were printed, one with a blessing for Sultan Abdulmejid, the second with a blessing for the Queen of England and the third with an anonymous blessing for "the Sultan"].
