Story by Jewish-German author Alfred Döblin. With five impressive woodcuts by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938), German painter and printmaker, one of the founders of the group of Expressionist painters Der Brucke. This story by Döblin is the first literary work illustrated by Kirchner.
[6] pp + [4] leaves (woodcuts), 23.5 cm. Bound in a new leather binding, without front cover. Part of the original front cover - a woodcut by Kirchner - is inlaid in the binding. Good condition.

"The Crocodile" by Dostoyevsky, with 21 lithographs by the artist Rachel Szalit-Marcus glued to the book leaves, five of them signed in pencil.
Rachel Szalit-Marcus was born in Lodz in 1894 and studied in Munich, where she married the actor Julius Szalit, who later committed suicide. Szalit moved to Berlin, where she was part of leftist avant-garde circles. After the Nazi rise to power she escaped to France, but was captured in 1942 and sent to Auschwitz, where she was murdered.

Abraham Palukst, Acht signierte Radierungen [Abraham Palukst, Eight Signed Etchings]. Berlin: Hoboken Presse, 1922.
A portfolio with eight etchings by Jewish-German artist Abraham Palukst. Signed in pencil and dated, 1922. All depict figures of pious Jews in a style reminiscent of German art of the period.
On the front cover of the portfolio is a lithograph by Palukst with an inscription noting this is copy no. 9 (out of an edition of unknown size).
Abraham Palukst (1895-1926), Jewish artist born in Ritova, Lithuania. Emigrated to Germany where he studied with Hermann Struck and was a friend of Jacob Steinhardt (his etched portrait, made by Steinhardt, is in the collection of the Israel Museum). Died in Berlin aged 31. In the 1980s he was "rediscovered", his works were displayed at an exhibition in Tel Aviv and an album of his works was published.
Etching size varies, 16X12 cm. on average, leaves: 33 cm. Etchings in good condition, some with small tears to margins and creases. Damage to portfolio, to leather parts.

Willy Davidson (1890-1933) lived and worked in Hamburg and was part of the Haburgische Sezession movement. He died a short time prior to the Nazi rise to power, and because his entire family perished, his biography and oeuvre remained somewhat obscure.

One of the rarest art albums of the German artist max Slevogt. A booklet, in an album format, containing 14 pages with lithographs - sketches depicting the actress TIlla Durieux playing the wife of Potiphar on the German stage. Each lithograph signed in pencil by the artist. On the inner side of the back cover is another signature of the artist, noting also that this is copy no. 1 out of an edition of ten copies.
