Paper sheet, handwritten in square (Oriental) script, glued on tin, with the times of sunrise (netz) in Jerusalem for 1899-1901. At the bottom of the leaf is an inscription: "Shimon Hakham – As we have merited arranging this, we shall merit fulfilling it…". At the beginning of the leaf are halachic laws of the manner of using the chart. The hours are according to Arabic-Eretz Israel time [12:00 is the time of sunset. The clock is set each day according to the call of the Maghreb from the mosque on the Temple Mount]. As written on the instructions: "On the condition that the clock will be set according to the call of the Maghreb at 12:00. The times of the chart are when the sunrise is visible from the tower on Mount [Olive?], and with a list of the difference of times for Nachalat Shiva neighborhood and for the Rechovot neighborhood [Bukharim]". Rabbi Shimon Hakham (1843-1910), a prominent leader of the Bukhara community in Jerusalem, and a prolific writer. Translated the Chumash and Bible into into Bukharian language. Born in Bukhara to Chacham Eliyahu (1760-1880, Shochet and Bodek and scribe, who arrived from Safed in 1825 and settled in the city of Bukhara and was responsible for the shechita in the community). He led the Bukhara Aliya to Jerusalem in 1890. Authored dozens of books besides other rabbinic compositions which he helped publish. 35.5X50.5 cm. Fair-poor condition, faded ink and erased letters and words, open tears.

Archive of the Alwan family – Rabbis in Kurdistan and Jerusalem, [first half of 20th century]. The archive is composed of: · A collection of letters sent from the Alwan family concerning various matters. Letters from Rabbi Shabtai Alwan of Zakho, Kurdistan from 1928-1935 in Judeo-Arabic. From his son Rabbi Chaviv Alwan Rabbi of the Be'er Sheva Yeshiva of the Kurdish community in Jerusalem, and from his brother Rabbi Moshe Alwan and his son Marad. · Letters and recommendations for the Be'er Sheva Yeshiva [signed by: Rabbi Ovadia Hadaya, Rabbi Ben Zion Chai Uziel, Sephardi community committee, etc]. · Letters of stories about the rabbis of the Alwan family. · Small handwritten notebook, summaries of the Torah portions in preparation for a sermon. · More. · An illustrated Shiviti on parchment. Written by Rabbi Chaviv Alwan. [Jerusalem], 1941. Wood and glass frame (new). · Ten stamps (rubber and metal), of institutes of the Kurdish community in Jerusalem [Be'er Sheva Yeshiva, Hafatzat Torah Association, Kollel Zakho, etc.]. Rabbi Shabtai Alwan, a rabbi of the city of Zakho, Kurdistan. In 1935, he moved to Eretz Israel and taught young children in a Talmud Torah. He died in 1941. His son Rabbi Chaviv Alwan founded the Be'er Sheva Beit Midrash and Yeshiva in the Zichron Yosef neighborhood in Jerusalem in his father's memory. Dozens of items, size and condition vary.

Manuscript, Tikunei HaZohar. [Yemen], 1588. Early copy of the first edition (Mantua, 1558), copied soon after printing. The manuscript begins at the middle of the first introduction. Ancient Yemenite writing, with glosses of completions and sources by a later writer in several places in the margins. On the last leaf, after copying the concluding words of the editor of the Mantua printing is an additional colophon by the scribe of the manuscript [slightly cutoff] from "Five thousand and three hundred and forty eight of the 6th thousand" (1558). [141] leaves. Missing several leaves at the beginning of the manuscript. Approximately 20 cm. Varied condition among the leaves, good-fair. Stains, wear and tears. Tears to several leaves with damage to text. Ancient binding (made from the geniza of ancient leaves), restored with glue and fabric covering.

Two volumes, complete manuscript, attractive and elaborate, Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, with Shetilei Zetim, by Rabbi David Mashraki Mizrachi. [Yemen, 19th century]. The author: Rabbi David Mashraki Mizrachi (1696-1771), a leading Yemenite scholar from the 18th century, founder of the Shami version, traditionally used by many Yemenite Jews for prayers and halachic customs according to the rulings of the Shulchan Aruch. His composition Shetilei Zetim on the Shulchan Aruch is the primary halachic book used by Yemenite Jewry. Until the end of the 19th century, this composition was distributed only as handwritten copies until it was printed in two different editions in Jerusalem. Volume 1 (Simanim 1-416): [313] leaves; Vol. 2 (Simanim 117-697): [161] leaves. 23.5 cm. Thick high-quality paper, good condition, stains, glosses and additions on wide margins. On the last leaf is a colophon (erased) by the scribe Rabbi Salem son of Saliman Tanami – Rabbi Shalom son of Shlomo Tanami, a known Yemenite scribe from the 1780s, see Encyclopedia L'Chachmei Teiman p. 647. In some places are glosses by several writers and ownership inscriptions. [143] leaves. 23.5 cm. Fair condition, wear and stains, (open) tears to several leaves. New fabric binding. Provenance: This manuscript is from the collection of Dr. I. Mehlman and is mentioned in the Encyclopedia L'Chachmei Teiman p. 647, see enclosed photocopy. On the endpaper is an inscription in the handwriting of Dr. Mehlman: "Apparently, not printed" – Although this composition has already been partially printed in the Taj edition of Keter Torah (Jaffa, 1940), and fully in the Taj edition of Avkat Rochel, published by Yosef Chassid, (Jerusalem, 1991).

At the beginning of the manuscript is a colorful title page with geometric ornamentations (without inscriptions). The titles are decorated in red ink. Title on Page 2: "…we will begin to write the haftaroth of the whole year…". At the beginning of the Haftorot of the Festival is a title: "We shall begin to write the Haftarot of the Festivals…". On the last leaf: The blessings of the Haftarot before and after, and a colophon: "And you, my brother who is studying this book if you find any error…please do not judge me critically and give me the benefit of the doubt…Yosef son of Yosef Algmami" [another signature of the abovementioned writer, also on the previous page]. Glossary of foreign words, etc. In these compilations and in the glosses are teachings and novellae cited from many books [books of the Chida, from Ateret Zvi by Rabbi Zvi Hirsh of Zhydachiv and other early books and Chassidic books], and many teachings heard from Yemenite sages: The Maharitz and his grandson Maritz son of Rabbi Ya'akov, Rabbi Yosef Tzarem, Rabbi Yichye Bashiri and his book Chavetzelet HaSharon, Rabbi Se'adya El Darmari, Rabbi Se'adya HaShalem, Rabbi Se'adya Elager, Rabbi Yosef Elchatzeri, Rabbi Yehuda Chaki, Rabbi Se'adya Machmon in the name of Rabbi Y.Y. The manuscript itself was written earlier and later the writer added many more glosses and anthologies. The book Ateret Zvi was first printed in 1834, therefore this manuscript was written between 1834 and 1838.

Manuscript, an anthology of various compositions on the laws of shechita, Sha'arei Kedusha, with the Lechem Todah commentary and Sha'arei Kedusha with other commentaries. The manuscript includes Yemin Moshe and a compilation of explanations and laws in Hebrew and in Judeo-Arabic. Yemen, 1854. Signature of the scribe, Rabbi "Yuda son of Musa al Charatz" appears in two places in the middle of the manuscript, on a colophon from 1805 at the end of the first composition, and in the title of another composition, Sefer Pri Tsaddik – in honor of Tzalach Dayan of the Sana community – by Yuda Ibn Musa al Charatz". Rabbi Yehuda, son of Moshe Charatz, was a scribe and author of books on the laws of shechita. His work, Minchat Yehuda on the laws of shechita and terefot, orderly compilations on the book Sha'arei Kedusha, is noted in the Encyclopedia Le'Chachmei Teiman (Vol. 1, p. 176). This composition was written after 1855. Apparently, this manuscript is an earlier edition of his work on the laws of shechita, with copies of additional compositions written by Yemenite sages. [194] leaves. 16.5 cm. Good-fair condition, wear and stains. The compositions are incomplete. New binding with fabric spine.
