Elaborate antique binding – leather-covered wood with decorations and metal buckle [missing closure]. Given as a gift to a bride – handwritten dedication on leaf before title page: "This prayer (book) I have given to my wife Mrs. Rechel while she was yet engaged to me, and it belongs to her and she should merit praying from it and using it until ripe old age. With love and fraternity, Avraham ben Yosef Rabbi of Allersheim".

The Kabbalist rabbi and researcher, the Ga’on Rabbi Yosef Schwartz, born in Germany in 1805, immigrated to Jerusalem in 1833 and passed away in 1865. Until today his books serve as fundamental basis for many discussions regarding matters pertaining to Eretz Yisrael both in the Torah-Halachic realm and in the scientific-historical research realm.
It seems that all three volumes are from one source. Volume one: glosses and handwriting on additional leaves bound at end. Third volume contains inscription from 1866 to Rabbi Bernis from Paris, son of Rabbi Yitzchak Breines of Hamburg, signed by “…Yosef son of Rabbi Avraham Asher”. Additional notation of personal inscription: “Gift from friend Rabbi and Av Beit Din of Carlsburg”.
