Medal Commemorating Admiral Smith – Siege on Acre – England, 1820

A medal minted to commemorate Admiral Sydney Smith's success in fighting off Napoleon's army in Acre during the battle of 1799. [England, ca. 1820].
From the series of medals minted under the guidance of James Mudie, to commemorate British victories in different battles.
Obverse: Portrait of Admiral Sydney Smith, and the legend "Admiral Sir S. Smith". Signed: Mudie [James Mudies] and Mills [George Mills]. Reverse: Allegorical relief – the British lion defending the Syrian camel against the French tiger. Legend: "Acre Defended, Bonaparte Repulsed, Syria Saved". Signed: Mudie and Brenet [Nicolas Guy Antoine Brenet].
Diameter: 40 mm. Good condition.
