Decorated Ketubah - Herat, Afghanistan, 1883
Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom, Matatia ben Abba, and the bride, Zilpa bat Shimshon. Herat, Afghanistan, Heshvan 5644 [1883].
At the top of the ketubah are five gates, three of them with illustrations of vases holding flowers and the other two with blessings and verses. At the bottom are five empty medallions. Witnesses' signatures.
43.5X55 cm. Fair condition. Stains, tears, wear and creases. Folding marks. Ink traces (due to the ketubah having been folded). Some of the tears are restored with pasted paper.
