"Underground Jerusalem", by Charles Warren, an officer in the British Royal Engineers. Warren was sent to Palestine in 1867 by the British Palestine Exploration Fund and was one of the pioneers of archeology in the Holy Land, particularly in Jerusalem. The book contains nine plates - three photographs (the Western Wall, a group of Ashkenazi Jews and Samaritans praying on Mount Gerizim) and six diagrams and illustrations, with many additional illustrations incorporated in the text.
XX, 559 pp. + [9] plates, 22 cm. Good condition. Some foxing, mostly to first and last pages and to page edges.
