Large-Format Ketubah – Isfahan, 1861

Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom Eliyahu son of David with the bride Esther daughter of Asher. Isfahan, Tevet 1861. Especially large format. Adorned with illustrations of lions, birds and peacocks, cypress trees, the sun and flowers. The motif of a lion with half a sun in the shape of a man’s face is a Persian national symbol. On the margins of the ketubah words in the illustrator’s signature: “The artist and writer Moshe son of R’ Yeshua”. At the bottom is a Tosefet Ketubah from 1887. 70X92 cm. Fair condition. Folding marks, creases and stains, tears to folding lines and to margins.
