Textile for Cantor’s Pillar – Gomel, 1880
Mappa – textile decoration for cantor’s pillar (“Amud”). Gomel, Belaruss, ca. 1880 (dedication from the year 1880). Green velvet, gold-thread embroidery. Square textile, green, with golden fringes. In the center appears an inscription: “donation… / from the women /… / Gomel / 1880…” The inscription is surrounded by four stars and an embroidered floral decoration, with small metal ornamentations. 115X128 cm. Fair condition. Holes. Stains. Holes to lining.
