Lapel Pin – Second Zionist Congress, 1898

Lapel pin to be worn by participants in the Second Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland, August 1898.

Star of David, with a relief in the center depicting a Jewish family in tattered clothing, and next to it the figure of a woman gesturing eastward. Hovering above the woman’s head are the seven stars of the Zionist flag proposed by Theodor Herzl (see previous item). Marked "Beer" in the margin – a reference to the artist Friedrich Beer, one of the participants in the First Zionist Congress and a friend of Herzl’s.

Maximal length: 27 mm. Good condition.
