Two Silver Salt Dishes of the Mitteler Rebbe

Two silver salt dishes which belonged to Rebbe Dov Ber, the Mitteler Rebbe of Lubavitch. Square dishes, stemmed (differing slightly in size and design); ornamented rims. Silver (84), partially gilt. Marked: St. Petersburg; assayer mark: A.Я. (Aleksandr Ilyich Yashinkov - active in St. Petersburg in the years 1795-1826). One dish with maker's mark: F.D. (Friedrich Johann Drevsen; active in St. Petersburg from 1818).


Letter of authenticity enclosed (handwritten note, in English), signed in Hebrew by Rebbetzin Chanah Gurary (1899-1991), eldest daughter of Rebbe Rayatz: "I hereby gift... the 2 salt celler set with the gold inside that belonged to the Mitteler Rebbe. I received it as a gift from my grandmother in 1935."

Letter of authenticity is dated 14 May, 1989. Enclosed is a tin box, which may have also been used in "Beis Rebbe" (the box was handed over alongside the salt dishes, but is not mentioned in the letter of authenticity).


9X7X5.3 cm; 8.7X7X5 cm. Good condition. Minor blemishes.
